Necklace with a Turtle

Aegina was one of the first Greek islands to mint its own coins, around 550 BC. Its silver staters brought a sea turtle to one side, a symbol of its naval power and trade. The Aeginetan coin was widely circulated throughout the Aegean and became one of the most recognizable coins of the ancient world.
